Big announcement about old Rs 500 notes, don't miss

Big announcement about old Rs 500 notes, don't miss

New Delhi: People can use old Rs 500 notes for paying utility bills or buying medicines till Thursday mid-night as the government has decided not to extend exemptions beyond December 15.

At the same time, mobile recharge facility with old Rs 500 notes will not be available. However, people can deposit invalid Rs 500 currency in their bank accounts.
"Exemptions for use of old Rs 500 notes will end on December 15 midnight," Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das tweeted.

That means old 500 currency notes will not be acceptable at medicine shops and for paying public utility services such as payment of electricity and water bill etc.
The government had already withdrawn some of the relaxations like booking railway or plane tickets and payment at petrol pump and toll plaza by using the old Rs 500 notes.
While cancelling legal tender of 500 and 1,000 notes on November 8, the government had allowed them to be used for utility bill payments for the first 72 hours. This deadline was extended repeatedly and the last extension was granted till December 15.

In between, the government withdrew use of 1,000 rupee notes for utility bill payments and discontinued use of even 500 ones for services like purchase of petrol and diesel at petrol pumps as well as buying air tickets at airport counters.
Since the demonetisation announcement, the government has been pushing towards promoting digital transactions and has come out with a package to incentivise cashless payments.

Now petrol, railway tickets and insurance policies of PSU companies will cost less if bought through debit/credit cards or other digital modes. The government also waived service tax for payments up to Rs 2,000 made through cards and decided to do away with transaction fee for payment to the central government departments and PSUs. (PTI)

Lyf F1 Review | Price, Specifications, and More

Lyf F1 Review | Price, Specifications, and more

Lyf F1 design and build.

The Lyf F1 is built around a plastic frame and, it feels very light to hold. Despite going with plastic over metal, the overall fit and finish is good. There's no creaking or flex when the body is pressed, though we would still have preferred a sturdier material. The dimpled texture on the back adds some relief to the phone's otherwise ordinary look. The Lyf F1 is quite slim too at 7.9mm.

There’s a 5.5-inch full-HD screen that has good brightness and sharp text, thanks to the dense pixel count. Colour reproduction is fairly good too and there’s Corning Gorilla Glass for reinforcement. We have the power and volume buttons on the right, which have decent tactile response. There are two slots on the left for two SIM cards and we even have a dedicated microSD card slot (up to 128GB). The headphones socket is placed on the top, and a Micro-USB port is at the bottom.

Around the back, we simply have the camera module at the top and a slit for the speaker at the bottom. There is no fingerprint sensor, which is a bit of a disappointment. In the box, you get an in-ear headset, a power adapter, a long flat USB cable, and a SIM ejector tool.

Lyf F1 specifications and features

Lyf has used the fairly dependable octa-core Snapdragon 617 SoC for the F1. It's paired with 3GB of RAM, and there’s 32GB of built-in storage. Other specifications include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, USB OTG, GPS, FM radio, and 4G VoLTE support. Apart from the usual suite of sensors, the F1 also features a gyroscope.
We have Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 which is thankfully left to its stock look and feel. Reliance bundles the Jio suite of apps, including JioMoney, Jio Play, etc. The apps require you to create an account, or if you’re using a Jio SIM, you can skip this step. Lyf Care lets you find nearby service centres, call a helpline, and manage Jio’s services.
The Smart Tray app provides you with a pop-up tray of shortcuts for up to 15 apps when you swipe diagonally from either of the bottom corners of the screen. Smart Ring alters the volume level of an incoming call based on gestures like flip to mute, or based on ambient sound. In our experience, the success rate was a bit of a hit-or-miss. The video player lets you stack two videos side-by-side and have them play simultaneously. While we can't imagine anyone needing to do this regularly, the feature exists.

Performance

General performance is good and we didn’t encounter any major hiccups during the course of our review. The phone's core specifications and the lean Marshmallow UI help ensure that performance and multitasking are smooth. The phone doesn’t overheat, but its back does get warm when you’re using the camera a lot or doing anything stressful, like gaming. Speaking of which, even heavy games like Asphalt 8 ran smoothly, without much trouble. We got 47,562 in AnTuTu, 5,390 in 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme, and 17fps in GFXbench. These are more or less along the lines of what we expect from a phone at this price point.
The Lyf F1 does a decent job at media playback too. It can handle files up to 1080p with ease and even our high-bitrate test files ran just fine. The speaker gets sufficiently loud when placed on a flat surface, but sounds a bit weak otherwise and gets muffled pretty easily if the phone is placed on an uneven surface. Audio quality with the bundled headset is strictly average.
The 3200mAh battery ran for 10 hours and 57 minutes in our HD video loop test, which is good. With regular use, we easily got through a full day and then some. The battery charges pretty quickly with the bundled adapter and we were able to get up to 45 percent in about an hour.

Verdict

The ergonomic design of the Lyf F1 makes it easy to use and carry around. The back offers good grip when you hold it and the slim borders on either side of the display offer some degree of one-handed usability. There’s no camera bump on the back either.
As it turns out, the Lyf F1 is indeed a decent option to c

Global tech giant Samsung finally seems to have taken a step into the future as according to reports, it might be nearing the release of a foldable smartphone soon. Following several rumours leaked designs, teaser videos regarding the flexible bodies device, the company seems to be following through with the plan. South Korea’s ET News claimed that the company has been working on two different types of flexible smartphones which have separate dual-screened variants, expected to be released early next year. The idea of foldable smartphones from Samsung has been making headlines for a while now. Meanwhile, ET News has now reported on Samsung’s ‘two-track strategy’ which will be directed towards the announcement of the flexible devices in the market.

According to ET News, the company will bring the ‘dual-screen’ smartphone to the market before it announces the foldable designs. The dual-screen device will have two different flat displays on either side of the device. According to the report, Samsung will only go ahead with the foldable smartphone launch only if the dual screen device is a hit among the masses and hence will be manufactured in a limited quantity. According to ET News, the initial foldable design will be launched in 2017 and another single flexible display smartphone will come forth in 2018. The dual-screened smartphone is expected to be unveiled at CES or MWC.

Samsung has always been interested in the flexible design of smartphones. In 2013, the company had launched the Galaxy Round which had a curved OLED display, but in a limited number. Then it announced the Galaxy Note Edge which was a revolutionary device as it was the first one to have an edge display. Even the recent Galaxy S7 Edge has a dual curved display. So it is clear that Samsung has the resources to work on the technology to bring the device into the world. According to a recently published patent, the tech giant appeared to have been planning for a new smartphone which can fold in half near the middle. According to the document of the patent released, a thin Samsung smartphone with a bendable screen could be seen, that folds like a flip phone. One can even see a secondary display which works when the device is folded.

Apart from Samsung, even Lenovo has reportedly been working on a foldable smartphone prototype as it had showcased them at Tech World conference, this year. But according to several reports, the company does not plan to bring those devices to the market anytime soon.

Apple adding fresh emojis to iPhone

New York, Dec 13 (IANS) With the launch of iOS 10.2 software update for iPhone on Monday, Apple has added a wider range of fresh emojis that include new facial expressions, professions and food.

New York, Dec 13 (IANS) With the launch of iOS 10.2 software update for iPhone on Monday, Apple has added a wider range of fresh emojis that include new facial expressions, professions and food.

iPhone emoji keyboard will now entail symbols that feature occupations like teacher, firefighter and scientist.

The new software update will also have a people-themed emojis including one representing a pregnant woman.

“The newly released batch will also bring new types of smiley faces that show different emotions and actions, such as a face with a Pinocchio-like nose,” the report noted.

“The newly released batch will also bring new types of smiley faces that show different emotions and actions, such as a face with a Pinocchio-like nose,” the report noted.

According to the report, a group of Google employees proposed a new set of gender-diverse emoji in May, while Facebook rolled out new options for its Messenger platform in June.

Google’s amazing new keyboard for iPhones now available for Android

Google's popular new keyboard called the Gboard is now available for Android smartphone users too. This feature was earlier available only for Apple iOS users.

Google’s popular new keyboard called the Gboard is now available for Android smartphone users too. This feature was earlier available only for Apple iOS users. According to reports in 9to5 Google and Android Police, Google is updating its Keyboard and will reportedly add features from the Gboard. The new updated keyboard will have functionalities like an integrated search, tool for emoji search and a few other shortcuts.

As of now these are only available as Android application package (APK) from the company and does not contain any details on the release. But reportedly this will be a part of Google Play Store soon. Android Police, for now, keeps adding the new features on the list which are expected.
GBoard is an interesting feature from Google which surprisingly works better on Apple iOS devices than on its own Android systems. This is even more perplexing,as Apple puts limits on third party applications.

Google, however, had promised the keyboard on Android but it has been almost half a year. The third-party keyboard for iOS made Google search engine a part of the interface which is used most by the consumer. The keyboard had come to the iOS following months of development.

When it came, it offered a lot of new features which were not a part of the iOS keyboard, and that distinguishing feature became a hit among Apple device users.
The Google keyboard for iOS used gesture-based typing.

The users could slide their fingers on the screen and Google could guess related words. A simple press on the Google logo button would let users access the famous web search. The keyboard brought particular buttons for images and GIF-based searches. These features are powered by Google’s own image search.

Even visually, Google’s keyboard is different from the normal Android keyboard. The Android keyboard does not have text or picture-based searching.

This keyboard feature was designed to improve the number of searches on Google’s website on iOS devices. Google has always had a monopoly on the online search system, but most of it has been PC-based, while it struggled a bit.with mobile based search.
