Global tech giant Samsung finally seems to have taken a step into the future as according to reports, it might be nearing the release of a foldable smartphone soon. Following several rumours leaked designs, teaser videos regarding the flexible bodies device, the company seems to be following through with the plan. South Korea’s ET News claimed that the company has been working on two different types of flexible smartphones which have separate dual-screened variants, expected to be released early next year. The idea of foldable smartphones from Samsung has been making headlines for a while now. Meanwhile, ET News has now reported on Samsung’s ‘two-track strategy’ which will be directed towards the announcement of the flexible devices in the market.

According to ET News, the company will bring the ‘dual-screen’ smartphone to the market before it announces the foldable designs. The dual-screen device will have two different flat displays on either side of the device. According to the report, Samsung will only go ahead with the foldable smartphone launch only if the dual screen device is a hit among the masses and hence will be manufactured in a limited quantity. According to ET News, the initial foldable design will be launched in 2017 and another single flexible display smartphone will come forth in 2018. The dual-screened smartphone is expected to be unveiled at CES or MWC.

Samsung has always been interested in the flexible design of smartphones. In 2013, the company had launched the Galaxy Round which had a curved OLED display, but in a limited number. Then it announced the Galaxy Note Edge which was a revolutionary device as it was the first one to have an edge display. Even the recent Galaxy S7 Edge has a dual curved display. So it is clear that Samsung has the resources to work on the technology to bring the device into the world. According to a recently published patent, the tech giant appeared to have been planning for a new smartphone which can fold in half near the middle. According to the document of the patent released, a thin Samsung smartphone with a bendable screen could be seen, that folds like a flip phone. One can even see a secondary display which works when the device is folded.

Apart from Samsung, even Lenovo has reportedly been working on a foldable smartphone prototype as it had showcased them at Tech World conference, this year. But according to several reports, the company does not plan to bring those devices to the market anytime soon.
